I am a tropical forestry engineer, with a Master degree in Forest Management from Universidad de Los Andes in Venezuela where I worked between 2005 and 2013 fulfilling different roles in teaching and research. In 2019, I completed a PhD in Environmental and Forest Sciences from the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS) of the University of Washington, USA. I’ve built my career within the framework of research and education on the topics of forest ecology and forest management. I’m interested in facilitating the use of scientific knowledge for sustainable forest management. Between 2020 and October 2021, I worked as a postdoctoral scholar position in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management (ESPM) at the University of California – Berkeley working to understand the effects of drought on the dynamics of tree communities, fuels, and regeneration in the mixed-conifer forests of the Sierra Nevada in California. Between November 2021 and June 2024, I was part of the Forests and Climate Change team at The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) focusing on analyzing forest carbon within the High Integrity Forest Investment Initiative (HIFOR). Since July 1st, 2024, I work as a Senior Program Officer in Forest Carbon at VERRA, where I focus on the revision and consolidation of VERRA’s existing forest management (IFM, ARR) methodologies.

Soy ingeniero forestal con un Master en Manejo de Bosques de la Universidad de Los Andes, Venezuela, donde trabajé en diferentes posiciones de docencia e investigación entre 2005 y 2013. Recientemente en 2019 culminé mi doctorado en la Escuela de Ciencias Ambientales y Forestales de la Universidad de Washington, Estados Unidos. Mi carrera se enmarca dentro de las áreas de investigación y educación en temas como ecología forestal y manejo forestal sostenible. Luego de varios años, gran parte de este esfuerzo ha servido para integrar una red internacional de investigadores con intereses similares. Estoy muy interesado en continuar mi carrera sirviendo como facilitador para el uso de la información científica en la práctica de manejo forestal y conservación. Entre el 2020 y finales del 2021 trabajé como investigador postdoctoral en la Universidad de California – Berkeley, trabajando para entender los efectos de la sequía en la dinámica de los bosques, biomasa y regeneración en los bosques mixtos de la Sierra Nevada en California. Entre noviembre de 2021 y Junio 2024 me desempeñé como Analista de carbono en el programa global de conservación de la Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). Desde Julio de 2024 trabajo como Senior Program Officer en Forest Carbon en VERRA.
